Connect Rocketbots to WeChat.

WeChat (微信 or Weixin) is a Chinese multi-purpose messaging, social media and mobile payment app developed by Tencent. As China's most popular app, it is also one of the world's largest mobile apps by with over 1 billion monthly active users and 902 million daily active users.

The WeChat Logo

The WeChat messaging platform features scannable QR codes that allows users to easily connect to your Space. The platform also has location sharing for contacts to easily share their location with you.

Setting Up WeChat

In order to connect WeChat to your Space, you will need the following:

Connecting to WeChat

To add a new channel to an existing Space, navigate to Settings and select the blue "Add Channel" button under Channel Settings.

Under the Channel Connection menu, select the WeChat Logo and press the blue "Next" button.

Once you have done so, you should be asked for the Channel Name, Greeting Message, and information needed to connect to your WeChat account.

Connecting to WeChat

Enter a suitable name for the new channel. Note that the Channel Name is private and will only be used within the Rocketbots Platform.

You may enter an optional Greeting Message. This will be shown when a new member of your audience first contacts you.

Getting the App ID

From the WeChat Dashboard, go to the "Basic Configuration | 基本配置" page. You can find this below the Develop section.

On the Basic Configuration page, you will be able to find your App ID on this page.

Go ahead and paste this onto the Rocketbots Platform.

Generating the App Secret

To generate the App Secret, you have to pass two verification steps. First, you will have to scan a QR code on the webpage. After which, you will be asked to re-enter your account password.

Once you have completed the security measures, a brand new App Secret will be generated.

Save this secret key as it will not be shown again! Each time you go through this processes, a new App Secret will be generated.

Enter the App Secret into the Channel Settings menu and press the "Continue" button.

Connecting to the Platform

Once you are done with the channel settings, the Platform will have generated a Webhook URL along with a Verification Token for you to copy into your WeChat settings.

Whitelist IP Address

Return to the WeChat Basic Configuration page and add the following IP address of Rocketbots to the whitelist:

Once again, you will have to verify yourself by scanning a QR code.

Webhook URL and Token

Click on the "修改配置 | Modify Configuration" button below to open up the Configuration menu.

Copy the Webhook URL and Verification Token from the platform and paste them into their respective fields.

Generate an Encoding AES key (although it's not used) and select " 明文模式 | Plain Text Mode" for message encryption.

Save these settings and a green message should appear.

Finally, you will have to enable these changes so that messages are forwarded to the platform. Click on the green “启用 | Enable” button. It should then turn red.

Enabling the Connection

Return to the Rocketbots Platform and press the blue "Done" button. Your Space will now be connected to WeChat!

Any messages sent to your WeChat Official Account will now be received in your Space.


The WeChat Channel has the limitation listed below:

  • WeChat audio messages do not play in Chrome as the format .wav sent by WeChat is not supported by Chrome.
